How to hide your business address in the KVK (Netherlands Chamber of Commerce)?
This article explains how you can hide (shield) the business address listed in the KVK Register if it is also private residential address. The process depends on your type of business or organization.
At North Data, we publish company information exactly as provided by official registers — including the Netherlands Chamber of Commerce (KVK). This ensures transparency and trust in business dealings across Europe. However, some sole proprietors use their private residential address as their business address and may wish to have it removed from public view.
Because North Data only derives information made available by the KVK, we cannot directly remove or hide your address. Any changes or hiding requests must be processed by the KVK itself. Once your address is hiden or updated in the KVK, North Data will automatically update the profile.
Why your address is public?
All businesses in the Netherlands must be registered in the KVK Business Register. This register includes basic details such as:
-
Company name
-
Legal form
-
Business and postal addresses
-
Registered officers
Some of this information is public by law, allowing others to verify who they are doing business with. However, in certain cases — for example, if your business address is also your private home address — you can ask KVK to hide it from public view.
What does “hiding (shielding)” mean?
When KVK hides your visiting address:
-
It is removed from all public extracts of the Business Register.
-
The address will no longer appear on KVK.nl or on platforms that use KVK data (such as North Data).
-
Only authorized professionals (for example, lawyers, bailiffs, or government officials) may access it if legally required.
Even if you download your own company extract, the business address will not appear once it has been shielded.
How to request address hiding from KVK?
The procedure depends on your company’s legal structure:
1. For Sole Proprietorships (Eenmanszaak)
If you operate a sole proprietorship, you can request shielding even without a threat.
You can do this via:
-
Online change form (wijziging doorgeven)
You can also select “afschermen bezoekadres” (shield business address) when registering your business.
2. For Other Legal Forms (e.g. BV, NV)
If your company is not a sole proprietorship, KVK can only shield your address in case of a proven or probable threat.
You must provide:
-
Proof of a clear threat (e.g. police report or evidence of harassment), or
-
Documentation showing that your profession involves a probable threat, as agreed in official covenants (for example, journalists, lawyers, social workers).
You can send your request with supporting documents to: afschermenadres@kvk.nl
Postal Address Requirement
When your business address is hidden, you must still provide a separate postal address (e.g., a PO Box). This ensures that your business remains contactable for official purposes.
