LEI number (Legal Entity Identifier)
An LEI (Legal Entity Identifier) is a globally unique 20-character alphanumeric code that identifies a legal entity (e.g., a company, bank, fund, public authority, foundation). It is mainly used in financial markets and regulatory reporting to make it clear which organizations are involved in transactions.
LEIs are issued by accredited LEI issuing organizations (also called Local Operating Units, LOUs) and maintained within the Global LEI System coordinated by GLEIF.
Format: always 20 characters (letters A–Z and digits 0–9), defined by ISO 17442.
Example (North Data GmbH): 529900710E5TPIFRPU60
Where can users find the LEI on North Data?
If an LEI exists for an organization, it appears in the company profile under the Identification / Identifiers section. Users can also paste the 20-character LEI into the North Data search to open the matching company profile.
