How does the location filter works in Power Search?

The Location filter in Power Search helps you find companies based on where they are located. Depending on your search objective, you can search by postal code, city or place, city with a radius, or country.

Understanding the difference between these search methods helps you choose the right search and interpret your results correctly.

Search by postal code

If you enter only a postal code, Power Search searches for companies whose registered address matches that postal code.

Example

Country: Austria 
Location: 1150 
Radius: —

Returns companies with the postal code 1150: 

Use this option when your goal is to search within a specific postal code area.

Search by postal code and city

You can also combine a postal code with a city.

Example

Country: Austria
Location: 1150 Vienna 
Radius: —

Although the search contains a postal code, Power Search interprets 1150 Vienna as a geographic location rather than as a postal code search.

Because no radius is specified, Power Search searches within the geographic area represented by the selected location. This area can be smaller than the entire postal code area covered by postal code 1150.

As a result:

  • some companies with the postal code 1150 may not be included, and
  • companies with neighbouring postal codes may appear if they are located within the selected geographic area.

Search by city or place

If you enter a city, town or other place, Power Search performs a geographic search based on that location.

Example

Country: Austria
Location: Vienna 
Radius: —

Returns companies located in or around Vienna.

Use this option when you want to search by location rather than by postal code.

Search within a radius

The Radius filter lets you search for companies within a specified distance from a selected location.

To use the Radius filter:

  1. Enter a city or another location.
  2. Specify a radius (for example, 10 km, 25 km or 50 km).

Power Search then returns companies whose registered address lies within that distance from the selected location.

Example

Location: Vienna 
Radius: 25 km

Returns companies located within approximately 25 km of Vienna.

Does a radius work without a location?

No.

A radius always needs a starting point. If no location is selected, the radius has no geographic reference point and therefore has no effect on the search.

Searching an entire country

If your goal is to find companies across an entire country, simply select the country.

Do not use a radius.

Returns companies across Spain.

Country search vs. radius search

A radius search answers a different question than a country search.

Example

Country: Spain
Location: Madrid 
Radius: 2,000 km

Searches for companies around Madrid within the specified radius.

Even a very large radius is not the same as a country-wide search, because a radius always searches around a selected location rather than searching every company in the country. Therefore, the above search results, include less companies than the search for the eintire country, although it might seem that the 2000 km radius should cover the whole country.
