What are "current shareholders"?
This article explains how to identify the entities and people that currently own shares in a company when using North Data.
The Current Shareholders table shows the entities and people that currently hold shares in the selected company.
This information helps you understand the ownership structure behind a company.
What is a current shareholder?
A current shareholder is a person, company, institution, or organization that owns shares in the selected company.
The Current Shareholders table answers the question: "Who owns this company?"
| Shareholder | The entity or a person that owns shares in the selected company. |
| Ownership share | The percentage of ownership attributed to the shareholder. |
| Ownership type | Indicates whether the shareholder is a direct shareholder or an identified ultimate parent. |
Example: When viewing a company such as SAP SE, the Current Shareholders table may include shareholders such as:
- Allianz Global Investors GmbH
- BlackRock Inc.
- Hasso Plattner Foundation
- The Capital Group Companies Inc.
along with their respective ownership percentages.
Ultimate Parent
In some cases, the table also identifies an Ultimate Parent.
An ultimate parent is the highest known controlling entity within an ownership structure. The ultimate parent may not be a direct shareholder of the company but can exercise control through one or more intermediate entities.Displaying the ultimate parent helps provide a broader view of corporate ownership.
Please see What does "Ultimate Owner" mean in North Data? for more information.
Special cases depending on the legal form
Depending on the company's legal form, the table may display participants other than shareholders.
For example, in limited partnerships, the table may show Limited Partners instead of shareholders. These are included to provide a more complete view of the company's ownership and participation structure.
How to interpret ownership percentages?
Ownership percentages represent the share of ownership attributed to the shareholder.
Higher percentages generally indicate greater influence over the company.
Note: Please note that ownership percentages may be based on the latest available disclosures and can change over time.
How to view sources and references?
Each shareholder entry is linked to the underlying source data.
To view the source or reference for a specific shareholder, click the book icon on the right-hand side of the corresponding row.
The source panel provides additional details about the origin of the ownership information.
How to export the data?
You can download the shareholder information as a CSV file for further analysis.
Use the Download CSV button above the table to export the available ownership data and work with it in external tools such as Excel or Google Sheets.
