# Public Company

**A public company** is a corporation whose shares are offered to the general public and traded on a regulated stock exchange or over-the-counter market. Public companies are subject to extensive disclosure, reporting, and governance requirements to ensure transparency for investors and regulatory authorities. They must regularly publish financial statements, management reports, and information about significant events affecting the company (e.g., annual reports, quarterly results, ad-hoc disclosures).
